THE Philippines suffered another loss in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers after a 1-0 defeat in the hands of host Singapore in Group H on Oct. 28, 2021 at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.

It was a scoreless first half, but Singapore finally broke the deadlock with a 52nd minute goal by Glen Kweh.

The Philippines suffered back-to-back defeats in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers after losing to defending champions Korea Republic, 3-0, in the opening day. With the loss to Singapore, the Philippines won’t advance to the AFC U23 Asian Cup in 2022 in Uzbekistan.

The top team of each group and the four best second placers will advance to the main Asian Cup tournament next year.

Korea is currently unbeaten and is at the top with six points, followed by Singapore with four points. Timor-Leste is third with a point, while the Philippines sits at the bottom of Group H with no points.

On the other hand, the Philippines Women’s National Team is in for a tough AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India next year after being drawn to a tough group.

The Philippines is in Group B with powerhouse Australia and neighboring countries Thailand and Indonesia.

The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

The top five finishers along with FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 co-hosts Australia and New Zealand will qualify for the coveted World Cup.
