Scottie Thompson saved his best for last as he shot a corner three-pointer to help the Barangay Ginebra Kings vanquish the TNT Tropang Giga, 92-90, to take a 2-0 series lead in the PBA Philippine Cup finals on Wednesday at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena in Pampanga.

Scoreless until his heroic shot, Thompson came up big for the Kings as he sank a triple from the right corner to give Ginebra an 87-85 lead with 30.5 seconds left after trailing by as much as 15.

After a miss by Jayson Castro, Ginebra’s LA Tenorio split his charities to keep the door ajar for TNT. However, Cebuano wingman Roger Pogoy missed another three-point attempt and Tenorio made four more free-throws to seal the remarkable comeback win by Ginebra.

Stanley Pringle and Aljon Mariano picked up the scoring slack for Ginebra, as they tallied 34 and 20 points, respectively. They were the only two players to reach double-figures for the Gin Kings.

Tenorio, Thompson and Japeth Aguilar combined to score just 14 markers.

The loss spoiled the tremendous offensive explosion of Pogoy, who had 38 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. (JNP)
