THE Sacred Heart School (SHS)-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles scored the game’s last 10 points to vanquish the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, 48-41, and make a return to the finals of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

Down three, 38-41, with 2:22 left in the game after UV guard Albert Sacayan hit a long step-back three-pointer at the shot-clock buzzer, Ateneo de Cebu did not blink and pulled ahead, 42-41, after a putback by Reymark Narbasa and a free-throw jumper by Ariel Dinglasan, with 1:32 remaining.

After a consecutive misses by UV’s Zylle Cabellon, Magis Eagles wingman LA Casinillo put the win on ice by canning four straight free-throws to send Ateneo de Cebu back to the finals for the first time since 2016.

Casinillo led Ateneo de Cebu with 10 points and five rebounds, while Ariel Dinglasan had nine points, seven boards and two steals. Mike Boniel flirted with a triple-double as he piled up seven points, six rebounds and an incredible eight steals.

Ateneo de Cebu now awaits the winner of the do-or-die match between the reigning champions University of Cebu Baby Webmasters and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers on Saturday, November 16.
