Sultan eyes KO win in WBC title fight

JONAS Sultan won’t leave anything to chance in South Africa as he looks to spark another run at a world title.

Sultan slugs it out with South African Athi Dumezweni for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver super flyweight title Sunday night, April 28, at the Orient Theatre in East Cape.

“I will find my timing and be very aggressive to win this fight. If there’s a chance to knock him out, I’ll knock him out,” Sultan told SunStar Cebu.

The 27-year-old Sultan had his shot at a world title but fell short against fellow Filipino and current International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight king Jerwin Ancajas in Fresno, California last year.

Sultan’s ranking dipped but he’s still ranked in the top 15 in the WBC and World Boxing Organization (WBO) at No. 14 and No. 13, respectively.

Winning the Silver title should move him up the WBC, which has Juan Francisco Estrada as the champion after he beat Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last April 27. (EKA)
