With the Gilas Pilipinas men’s basketball team now bereft of veterans owing to the unavailability of players from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Gilas program director Tab Baldwin said Greg Slaughter would be a great addition to the now-youthful squad.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is scrambling to form a suitable roster for the November window of the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers. Aside from the special draftees to the Gilas squad, the SBP is also considering tapping collegiate players to bolster the team.

Slaughter’s presence would provide this team with a solid interior presence and a veteran leader.

"I think Greg would be an asset," Baldwin said during his appearance on the TV show, SportsPage.

Slaughter is currently back in the country after spending most of the year in the United States. Baldwin said he has kept tabs on Slaughter’s training, mostly through the videos he posted on his social media accounts.

"I've seen his video and I think it's great. I would certainly welcome that," Baldwin said.

Baldwin though, was quick to note that Slaughter has to sort things out with his PBA ballclub, Barangay Ginebra, after the two parties failed to settle on a contract extension, which led the Cebuano to leave for the US not long after the Kings’ title conquest in the 2019 Governors’ Cup.

"It's not a done deal at this point. We have to work out with Greg and the powers that be in his situation right now,” Baldwin said.

"There are processes that have to be taken care of and have to be done correctly,” he added. (JNP)
