THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters stepped on the pedal late in the fourth quarter to cruise past the hapless Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT-U) Wildcats,81-67, and stretch their winning streak to four games in the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament in the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.

The mighty Webmasters dropped a back-breaking 14-0 run anchored on ace guard Darrel Shane Menina that restored UC’s lead to double digits at 75-64 after the Wildcats got ahead, 64-61, in the fourth.

Jemcresson Sable and Kevin Peter Oleado made five consecutive points that gave CIT-U a 64-61 advantage before Menina and the rest of the Webmasters staged the telling 14-0 blitz.

UC made sure that the game was in the bag as Menina, forward Frederick Elombi and guard Justine Dacalos connived for six points for the final tally as they ended the game on a strong note with a 20-2 blitz in the final six minutes of play.

Menina finished with a game-high 29 points with seven assists, and four steals. The Cameronian import Elombi made his presence felt in the paint with 18 points and whooping 23 rebounds.

High-leaping wingman John Calyn Jabello had 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in 31 minutes of play for UC, which remains as the only undefeated team in the tournament with a 4-0 win-loss card. (RSC)
