USC crush USJ-R in Cesafi basketball

THE University of San Carlos Warriors grabbed sole possession of second place in the standings after defeating the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 62-53, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

Sommy Managor led the way for USC, which vaulted over the idle University of the Visayas for second place at 7-3 (win-loss), with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Kurt Trangia had 13 markers and 10 boards while Roosvelt Jellianggao also had 13 points to go with five rebounds and four assists.

After a lukewarm start, USC surged ahead in the second and led by 10, 31-21. They extended it to 15, 54-39, after a triple by Froilan Mangubat and a three-point play by Jellianggao but USJ-R made some noise and pulled to within nine, 45-54, 3:43 left in the game.

However, USC answered back with a three-point play by Managor that took momentum away from USJ-R, paving the way for the Warriors’ win.

Miguel Gastador put up 22 points for the Jaguars, which dropped further down to the bottom at 2-8. (SunStar Cebu)
