THE University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers emphatically ended their elimination round, destroying the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Campus, 85-69, in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

UV turned their game up another notch in the second period where they outclassed UCLM, 27-12, to turn a 19-20 deficit at the end of the first into a huge 46-32 halftime lead.

They cruised to the victory from that point onwards.

“The Balamban Marksman” AJ Sacayan notched 16 points, four rebounds and a steal to lead UV, while Fritz Banzon added 14 markers, five rebounds and five steals. Zylle Cabellon contributed 13 points, while Samuel Melicor pitched in 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.

UV ended the round with an 8-2 win-loss card. Although already assured of a semifinal spot, it remains to be seen which place the Baby Lancers would end up in.

UCLM ended their maiden campaign in the Cesafi with a 2-8 slate. (JNP)
