UV, SWU duke it out for final four spot

THE reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. champions Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras will tangle with their old nemesis, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, for the right to advance to the Final Four of the Philippine Collegiate Champions’ League National Collegiate Championship at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center in Dumaguete.

UV and SWU-Phinma each have identical 2-0 win-loss records after they disposed of their respective opponents in the first two days of the Visayas-Mindanao Regional Championship to set the stage for their showdown, which was still being played at press time.

SWU-Phinma easily defeated the Asian College – Dumaguete, 74-47, during the first day of action on Monday, March 2. UV also got past the Holy Trinity College, 97-79.

Then on Tuesday, March 3, SWU-Phinma crushed HTC, 80-63, while UV demolished Asian College, 89-69, to set the final game that will decide which team will advance to the semifinal round this Saturday, March 7, against the reigning UAAP champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles. That game will be at the Ynares Sports Arena.
