Watanabe on course for Olympics slot

Sunnexdesk

THE country’s top judoka Kiyomi Watanabe remains on course for an Olympic slot as she is ranked No. 30 in the world by the International Judo Federation (IJF) for the women’s -63 category.

The Cebuana, whose roots is from Toledo City, currently has 1,860 points good for 30th place, according to the ranking by the IJF, the sport’s world governing body.

Fortunately, her ranking can still improve since only one athlete will be allowed per country in the Olympic ranking. Countries like Great Britain, Brazil, Austria, China, Slovakia and Japan have two or more athletes in the top 30 of the world ranking.

The 2020 Summer Games is set on July 24 to Aug. 9 in Japan. (RSC)
