WITH the economic boom in the city, there is an expected increase for the demand of cleaner water, a business leader said.

Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. president Arturo Milan said they are expecting more infrastructure developments this year that is seen to attract more people coming to the city; thus there is a need to ensure that everyone has access to clean water.

Milan said the implication of building more hotel and accommodation infrastructure in the city would naturally imply a need for cleaner water source.

“Magkadako man atung population na in the next years to come, mao ng dapat dili mahimong issue ang tubig,” Milan said.

Milan urged poultry farms operating in the city to be responsible in using water.

“We urge poultry businesses who are members of the chamber to strictly follow security provisions which concern water waste,” Milan said.

Based on the Code of Good Animal Husbandry Practices for Chickens by the Philippine National Standard (PNS) of the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) in 2016, farm operators must display clear procedure within the facility regarding processes in disposing water and solid wastes in their farm.

Meanwhile, Davao City continues to initiate efforts in making sure water sources for Dabawenyos are clean and safe.

Last November 2018, the Davao City Bulk water Supply Project (DCBWSP) in Baguio District broke ground.

DCBWSP by Apo Agua, an Aboitiz Company, is dubbed as the largest water supply facility in the country with an investment amounting to P12.6 billion. DCBWSP will help provide the city with over 300 million liters per day (mld) of safe water that will be sourced from Tamugan River.
