THE Department of Agriculture (DA) eyes to implement suggested retail prices (SRP) for selected farm products as an anti-profiteering measures.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol reportedly announced that SRPs will be implemented for basic vegetables, including pechay and eggplant, and of fishes such as galunggong, tilapia, and bangus.

There will also be SRP for regular-milled rice between P38 to P39 and well-milled rice between P40 and P42 per kilo.

Implementation of SRP for agricultural products will be covered by the anti-profiteering law, according to Piñol. A price increase of beyond 10 percent may be basis for profiteering, according to the agriculture secretary.

As the implementation will be observed nationwide, the DA Davao Region is already doing measures and preparations for the project.

“We are already coordinating with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other stakeholders through our marketing division,” Agriculture Davao regional director Ricardo Oñate said.

The SRP list for the mentioned agricultural products has yet to be released to the public. Piñol said they were hoping to implement it within the week.
