Drunk man falls into creek, dies

THE decomposing body of a man was found partially submerged in a creek at about 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019, in Barangay Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City.

Police said Jeffrey Ian Balangan Lapitan, 41, was believed to have accidentally fallen into the creek. He was believed to have been drunk.

Investigation revealed that the victim was last seen having a drinking spree with friends at a store in Purok 6, New Cogan, Barangay Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City on November 2, 2019. He had left unnoticed.

The body was discovered by 14-year-old Joseph Diacor seven days later, on November 9.

Lapitan sustained a severe head injury and a contusion in his chest.

The victim was known to be a good person in their place despite being noted as a habitual drunkard.

The investigator and immediate family believed that there was no foul play in the incident.

Station commander Police Major Achilles Bargio reminded the public to drink moderately and be mindful of their safety to avoid similar incident brought about by the effect of alcoholic beverages.

“It is important to know your limits in drinking alcoholic beverages and to be always mindful of the dangers and ill-effects that it may cause,” he said

The remains of Lapitan are at Angel Funeral Homes in Calinan, Davao City.
