Wrapping this year’s Sun Star Davao’s online presence, here’s a list of top inspiring and engaging stories posted in our social media accounts which were shared a hundred and thousand times by netizens.

1. The biker and the barker

Under our #SunStarLens online section, a photo of a 74-year-old Japanese Fumio Tsunoda and his dog Whitney heading home after their morning ride, captured by Sun Star Davao photojournalist Macky Lim, went viral online. Tsunoda always brings his pet dog wherever he goes. It gained 10,000 reactions and was shared almost 3,000 times.

2. Lumpia Boy

This photo made waves online because of the inspiring story of the subject, Jason Codera, a 21-year-old student of Davao City National High School. He sells lumpia inside their campus to save money for his college education.

3. Artistic Security Guard

A featured video of a security guard - Godofredo Elangos – of the University of Mindanao caught the netizens’ attention because of his perseverance in pursuing his passion. The video showed Elangos’ life as a guard and as a visual artist.

4. Colorful classroom

Many were inspired with elementary school teacher Carly John Condino for taking an initiative of making his classroom more conducive for learning with colorful and comfortable chairs with pillows. It is evident with his heavily-shared photos and video posted by Sun Star Davao’s social media content provider Mark Perandos.

5. The street barber

Terrence Real Zabala’s advocacy of giving homeless persons a free haircut impressed thousands of Dabawenyos. His video and photos inspired many to help the less fortunate, even in simple ways.

6. Venom Multimedia Artist

The story of Jeuz Sumangil, a Multimedia Arts graduate of the University of Mindanao, wowed thousands of Dabawenyos as he won Talenthouse's "Venom" alternative poster competition. It was participated by more than 3,000 artists globally and his artwork was picked by Tom Hardy, the Hollywood star in the Marvel’s film Venom, as the best among the rest.
