Calling to save lives

Randie J. Comilang

SOME people of this generation aspire to save lives that is why they decide to be a doctor. However, some may not afford to proceed to medical school.

However, some still pursue and never give up. One of them is Doctor Jonathan A. Alegre, one of the doctors at Davao Medical School Foundation. He has been serving patients for 35 years now. In an interview, Alegre shared his struggle as a medical

practitioner during his early years.

Alegre shared that he felt nervous after because they were the pioneer graduates of DMSF. To add, he was not sure whether his profession will be successful or not since the facilities of their school before were 60 years old while the faculty members teaching then were new teachers.

During those times, Alegre also experienced working as a janitor in a church. He struggled with his studies because of his frequent asthma attack. He had a hard time mingling and socializing with some of his classmates who came from other cities.

But he was grateful to God to have graduated from the school in 1981.

He currently leads some organizations such as the Philippine Hospital Association Davao. He is also one of the founders of Tagum Hospital and Tagum Doctors College Incorporated.

Alegre now has medical clinics in Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte where he hails from.
