A TOTAL of 271 cadets belonging to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 2020 arrived Tuesday morning, May 1, at Sasa Wharf, Davao City for their Southern Cruise 2018 Davao Leg.

Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) Public Information Officer Major Ezra Balagtey said the visit of PMA cadets aims to make them familiarize different military units here.

“The tour aims to orient the cadets of different AFP and PNP units in Davao and widen their perspective on the dynamics of military service,” Balagtey said.

He added that the Davao leg, which will end on Saturday, May 5, includes the conduct of Silent Drill Exhibition at Jose Maria College on May 3 at 9:30 a.m. and at the University of Mindanao-Matina Campus on May 4.

The Southern Cruise is an annual activity intended to promote PMA in different areas of the country, as the academy seeks to recruit the best, brightest and fittest applicants for the military service.

“The cadets are likewise expected to engage fellow youth and students and other organizations in various interaction activities lined up for them,” he said.

For those who are interested to be part of the PMA, they have put up a recruitment booth in some of the malls in the city to allow interested applicants and other stakeholders to know more about their cadetship.

“Meanwhile, as part of the activity, Foster Parents Association in Davao City is expected to adopt the cadets during their stay,” Balagtey said.
