5.7M quake rocks Tarragona

A MAGNITUDE 5.7 earthquake struck Tarragona town in Davao Oriental on Monday afternoon, September 12, 2022.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the 5.7 earthquake jolted the town at 4:14 p.m.

The tectonic quake has a depth of 62 kilometers.

Meanwhile, Intensity II was felt in Davao City.

Phivolcs also recorded the following instrumental intensities: Intensity III - Santo Niño, South Cotabato; Intensity II - Malungon, Sarangani; and Intensity I - Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal City and General Santos City, South Cotabato; Davao City.

Reported intensity is based on reports of people who felt the earthquake, while instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.

Aftershocks are likely but damage is not expected from the earthquake.

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake also struck the town at 5:45 a.m.

The intensity of the earthquake wasn't felt in neighboring provinces.

The Tarragona local government has not reported any damages following the earthquake.

Phivolcs also reported a 3.1 magnitude earthqukae in Manay, still in Davao Oriental at 2:23 p.m.
