AROUND 30 churchgoers fell into the knee-deep water while three of them sustained slight injuries after their wooden worship structure collapsed on Sunday noon in Barangay 22-C, Davao City.

Based on the report, the Water Search and Rescue (Wasar) Team alerted the Sta. Ana Police Station and the Squad of Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team of ERC Operation Control went to the collapsed Born Again Church to start the rescue operation.

“It's an old and dilapidated shanty standing on stilts along the Davao coastline,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Alexander Tagum said.

Based on the statement of Jessie Orque, pastor of the church, the incident happened while their worship service was ongoing. Some 30 churchgoers fell into the water.

The barangay volunteers responded and rescued the churchgoers who fell into the water including three persons who suffered slight injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Among those rescued were three Australian missionaries.
