THE Francisco Bangoy International Airport (FBIA), also known as the Davao International Airport (DIA), released an advisory requiring all persons entering the DIA premises to wear face shields.

Engineer Rex Obcena, FBIA manager, in the One Davao on Covid-19 virtual presser on August 17, 2020, said the advisory was apart from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Memorandum Circular 2020-014 mandating all passengers of public transportations to wear face shields.

He said the DOTr's memo is only for passengers both inbound and outbound while the DIA's advisory will cover all persons.

"Kasi I thought, in my mind very ironic nga pasahero lang ang naga-face shield, so for the protection of everybody, for the well-being of everybody, we issued an airport advisory requiring all persons: airport employees, concessionaires, security personnel, etc. entering the airport premises to wear face shields," Obcena said.

He also revealed that such advisory is unique to DIA only.

Meanwhile, he said they have not noted any violators of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases guidelines, but he admitted that they have reprimanded several individuals for not properly wearing their face mask or not observing physical distancing.

"We have not recorded serious violations at DIA, because the public was ampli notified, and daghang gabantay didto (and there are a lot who guard out there)," Obcena said.

He added that not only airport's security personnel are guarding the DIA but also government law enforcers.
