THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) denied allegations that the police force was behind the notorious Bunal Squad that attacked the customers of a computer shop in Boulevard, Davao City.

According to DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Rose Aguilar, they are now investigating the whipping incident in Davao City as she dismissed allegations that it was perpetrated by the police to deter crimes at night.

“Ang tibuok pwersa sa kapulisan nagadili ug naga kondena sa bisag unsang pamaagi sa pagpanapat kay violation kini sa tawhanong katungod sa matag usa. Kani dili buhat sa isa ka pulis kay ang mando sa amo is to serve and to protect (The police condemn any human rights violations. This is not an act of the policemen because our mandate is to serve and protect),” Aguilar said.

On Sunday dawn, a group of masked men broke into the computer shop of a certain Marco Guerrero at around 2 a.m. and started hitting several individuals with an undetermined object.

“The San Pedro Police Station has started to investigate the case. The incident was not reported to their office,” Aguilar said, thus, the police started coordinating with the shop owner to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Aguilar added that during the interview with Guerrero, it was learned that four customers were hurt following the attack. The wounded individuals were advised to seek medication and to go to the police station to help in the investigation.

She said DCPO will not resort to such violence targeting innocent individuals.

Aguilar said one of their initiatives ways to combat crimes is strengthening the police presence.

Meanwhile, there was no clear motive yet on the incident but they are looking into the angle of business rivalry, group rivalry, or personal grudge.
