SCIENTISTS recently discovered another endemic species of beetle in Maragusan, Compostela Valley.

The beetle was discovered by a team of scientists from Coleopatra Research Center led by Professor Analyn Cabras and University of Mindanao led by Milton Medina.

The Mansaka Weevil, or Metapocyrtus (Orthcyrtus) mansaka, was discovered in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor (EMBC) in Maragusan, Compostela Valley.

The EMBC is one of the last remaining intact forests in the Philippines.

The newly discovered 15-millimeter beetle has a unique green, golden yellow or turquoise color pattern at its back.

"This is a Mindanao endemic species," Cabras said

The team still has to conduct further study on the beetle's population and life cycle.
