THE father who doused his three-year-old daughter with kerosene and torched her was found dead, hanging from the ceiling of the comfort room inside his detention cell in Sasa Police Station, Davao City.

Randy Cueva Cadiente, a construction worker, was discovered by fellow detainees inside the comfort room at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, according to a spot report by the Sasa Police.

Police Officer (PO) 1 Karlo Luigi Mendoza was on duty as station sentinel of the police station when one of the detainees, Ryan Laput Estudillo, informed him that their companion had hanged himself using a stretchable bandage tied to the railings of the ceiling of the comfort room. The door was covered with clothes.

The station personnel, together with other detainees, immediately untied the stretchable bandage from Cadiente’s neck and brought him outside the detention cell.

Finding he still had vital signs of life, the police called Central 911 emergency which rushed the inmate to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

He was, however, declared dead on arrival at around 5:01 a.m. Wednesday.

Cadiente has been detained at the Sasa Police Station since March 19 and was facing a case of parricide after the City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause to charge him.

He had twice attempted to commit suicide by banging his head on the wall.

He was arrested by authorities after he set his daughter, Rhea Mae Sandy, on fire. His cadaver is at the morgue of SPMC.
