A GRASS fire broke out at the Puting Bato Peak in Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Davao del Norte on Monday evening, April 25.

BFP-Davao Public Information Service chief Fire Inspector Lei Anne Palermo told SunStar Davao in a text message that the fire incident was reported in P-6, Puting Bato Peak in Barangay Guilon, Samal District.

Palermo said the fire started around 6:30 p.m. and it was declared out around 10 p.m.

The fire official said there were no recorded casualties and injuries. No properties were damaged.

Based on initial investigation, the fire was suspected to be caused by “unattended burning.”

Palermo said, though, that they have yet to determine if the fire was caused by human negligence.

"We are still investigating the cause of the fire," Palermo said.

Palermo said in a previous report that out of the 1,005 reported fire incidents in the region in 2021, 262 or 26.06 percent were rubbish or grass fire.

Meanwhile, Puting Bato is a famous tourist attraction in the island as it is the highest peak in Igacos with a height of 1,345 feet above sea altitude.
