Firecracker injury down by over 50%

FIRECRACKER injury related cases in Davao Region decreased by more than 50 percent.

Doctor Annabelle Yumang, Department of Health (DOH) Davao regional director, said in an interview with SunStar Davao that firecracker injuries on December 21, 2018 to January 3, 2019 decreased to 10 cases compared with the recorded 22 cases from December 21, 2017 to January 5, 2018.

“So far ang ilaha dinhi mga kaso injury related, wala'y mga ingestion (There were no reported cases of firecracker ingestion...only firecracker injury),” she added.

She said one of the reported injured in Davao Region was from Sultan Kudarat who was admitted to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

Meanwhile, there were no firecracker-related injury reported in the city and no casualty reports in Davao Region.

She added that one of the factors of the reduced cases is still the Davao City ordinance prohibiting transport, trade, and use of firecrackers and fireworks.

Yumang said that they are hoping on the continuous reduction of firecracker injury related cases in the region.
