AFTER confirming that two of the three Covid-19 patients from Davao Region infected with the B.1.1.7. variant of the Sars-CoV-2 are from Davao de Oro, Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said the province will remain under modified general community quarantine.

"Wala pa mi plano to elevate our quarantine status but we are doing contact tracing (F1, F2, to F3) sa nag-positive sa UK variant and we plan to test them (swab test through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) immediately," Uy said in a text message on Sunday, February 14, 2021.

The provincial government released a statement on its Facebook page confirming that the two patients were residents of Compostela and New Bataan, Davao de Oro after the Department of Health in Davao Region (DOH-Davao) informed them about the detection of variant cases on Saturday morning.

According to the province's Emergency Operations Command (EOC) for Covid-19, the 54-year-old female from New Bataan already tested negative in her latest swab test and is currently under home quarantine. However, the DOH-Davao had advised her to return to the quarantine facility in New Bataan after she was confirmed to be infected with the new strain.

The 33-year-old male from Compostela has been in the quarantine facility for more than 21 days. The patient still tested positive for the coronavirus after being swabbed on February 9, 2021.

The EOC also said the two cases had no travel history in areas with confirmed cases of the new variant. The two were also not returning overseas Filipinos. The provincial government also said they are still in the process of tracing the contacts of the patients to determine where they have acquired the Covid-19 new variant.

"We are also currently doubling our efforts in tracing their close contacts up to the third degree (F3 close contacts) and placing them under quarantine," the provincial government said.

As of February 13, 2021, Davao de Oro registered a total of 1,039 Covid-19 cases, with 26 deaths and 763 recoveries. Of the 1,039, only 250 are still active cases.
