INDEX crimes in Davao City decreased by 27 percent in 2018, a local police official bared.

During the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police (AFP-PNP) Press Corps media forum Wednesday, January 9, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Senior Inspector Teresita Gaspan said the number of index crimes in the city decreased to 1,148 in 2018 compared to 1,585 cases in 2017.

Gaspan added that one of the factors why criminal cases in the city decreased is the police’s intensified efforts, like Oplan Kalinaw, against all forms of crimes.

Index crime refers to crime against person and crime against property.

Among crimes against person, murder decreased to 94 cases in 2018 from 122 in 2017 while homicide went down to 12 cases from 20. Physical injury cases dropped to 290 from 380. Rape also decreased to 174 from 215.

Among crimes against property, theft dropped to 390 cases in 2018 from 622 in 2017 while robbery went down to 153 cases from 200.

However, cases of motorcycle theft in the city increased to 30 in 2018 from 20 cases in 2017.
