A WOUNDED Chinese seafarer is now seeking medical treatment at the Davao Doctors Hospital after he was successfully evacuated by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel from a Chinese vessel off the coast of Davao.

PCG Davao Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel George Maganto said on Thursday, August 23, the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao Operations Center received a phone call from M/Tug Ning Hai Tuo 2, saying that one of their Chinese crew suffered fracture and laceration on his left index, middle, and ring fingers when they were caught by windlass cable on August 21 at vicinity waters 306 nautical miles Southeast of Cape San Agustin.

Maganto said the vessel rerouted towards the coast of Davao and requested for medical evacuation for their injured crew.

After that, District Commander, Captain Roy Echevertia deployed BRP Tubbataha (MRRV 4401) to proceed to where the Chinese vessel is located to meet M/V Bao-An, a bulk carrier that assisted M/Tug Ning Hai Tuo 2 since the latter could not proceed at five knots.

The wounded Chinese crew was successfully evacuated for medical purposes at about 2 p.m., Maganto said.

The patient, identified as Li Jiangnan, 27, from the Henan Province of China, was handed over to PCG medical team and was brought to Davao Doctors Hospital.

The injured seafarer was accompanied to the hospital by Li Lin, Consul General of China in Davao.

Li Lin thanked the Philippine government particularly the PCG for their help. They will return to China after the medical treatment is completed.
