IP youth to showcase talents at assembly

Different talents of the Indigenous People’s (IP) youth in Davao City will take centerstage during the 2nd Davao City IP Youth Artists’ Assembly at The Annex Events Center of SM City Davao on October 8 that aims to empower younger generations.

National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Davao City provincial officer Cristito Ingay said the activity is in line with the 21st celebration of the R.A. 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), an act that aims to recognize, protect and promote the rights of indigenous cultural communities/indigenous peoples, creating a national commission on indigenous peoples, establishing implementing mechanisms, appropriating funds therefore, and for other purposes which was passed in 1997.

The activity is centered on the theme, “Empowered IP Youth for Sustainable Development of Ancestral Domains.” It also aims to promote the IP rights and preservation of their rich culture and traditions.

During the event, various tribes in Davao City are expected to showcase their respective cultural presentation. There will also be painting competition using indigenous materials, songwriting and interpretation using each tribe’s dialect.

The tribal members will also display their different farm products, native delicacies, craft and beadworks, among others.
