Mentally-challenged man breaks religious images in church

A PERSON with a mental illness was found to be responsible for breaking the sacred images inside the St. James the Apostle Parish Church in Davao City last Monday, September 21, 2020.

In the blotter report from the Bunawan Police Station, police said they immediately went to the church to verify the incident.

Police Major Noel Villahermosa, chief of the Bunawan Police, said they apprehended the person responsible in the crime through a follow up operation.

They speculated that the suspect is suffering from mental illness thus they immediately brought him to the Southern Philippines Medical Center-Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine (SPMC-IPBM), formerly known as Davao Mental Hospital (DMH). Mental health workers confirmed the police’s initial suspicion.

Meanwhile, the staff of the church is now clearing the church of the debris of broken images, which was first trended on Facebook last Monday.
