MUSEO Dabawenyo bared that they will close starting Monday, January 28, to pave for the give way to the construction of the new City Engineer's Office (CEO) building.

A new museum, meanwhile, will rise at the People’s Park.

"Ang among office himuon naman sa CEO na building. Kami, as of this time, ongoing ang pag-demolish sa People's Park kay didto man pud mi balhin (Our office will be converted to a CEO building. The demolition at the People's Park is ongoing since we are to transfer there)," Museo Dabawenyo head Winnie Rose Bulig said in an interview with SunStar Davao Wednesday, January 23.

While the construction is ongoing, Museo Dabawenyo’s administration will hold office at the PWC Mindanao Folk Arts Museum. Bulig added that they will have few items to be displayed at their temporary office just to show the history of the city.

“Please bear with us sa pag-close sa museum. We will soon open but sa ibang area na. Mao ni siya ang (this is our) preparation for the big one so we just need to adjust this time,” she said.

With the transfer, some personnel of the museum were dismissed but were given alternative job in other offices of the city government.

“I already coordinated this to the HRMO (Human Resource Management Office) head kay nagtanggal gyud ko (I already referred this to the HRMO because we do not have the choice but dismiss them),” Bulig said, adding that these personnel will possibly be brought back to the museum once the new building is ready to operate.

Meanwhile, Bulig said that the P10-million Museo Dabawenyo building to be constructed at the People’s Park will be bigger and more modern. More items are also expected to arrive since there are more rooms for historical artifacts to be displayed.

She also said that they also plan to hire experts.

“More or less one year ang pagtukod ana. That is why, for the mean time, sa PWC lang sa mi (The construction of the new museum building will take more or less a year that is why we will have to stay at the PWC until then),” she said.
