A CITY official said employees of the Davao City Government situated within the “Maximum Security Zone” should not worry on the would-be tight security measures.

On Tuesday, August 6, the city council passed a resolution declaring San Pedro Square to become a maximum security zone.

According to the resolution, a maximum security zone is an area to which access is controlled through an entry point and limited to authorized, appropriately screened personnel and authorized and properly escorted visitors, and monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by peace-keeping forces.

Among the areas include Jaltan-A. Pichon Street, also known as Magallanes Street, going to Bonifacio Monument Rotonda, C.M. Recto to corner Rizal Extension, Rizal Extension to corner C. Bangoy, C. Bangoy to corner San Pedro Street, San Pedro Street to corner City Hall Drive, and City Hall Drive to corner Pichon Street.

Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) head Lemuel Ortonio said as an employee of the city government, he supports the security forces’ initiative of ensuring the safety of the public.

“Whatever measures or intiatives of the city government that would ensure the safety of the employees, we always support it,” Ortonio said, adding the enforcers have “wisdom” behind the implementation.

“We trust the people who came up with those initiatives,” Ortonio added.

He said there was no instructions or directives that were given regarding the employees’ entry point in city government offices situated in the security zone.

“Pero ato security personnel sa city government are always on standby (Our city security personnel are always ready),” Ortonio said.

As to the changes of the security measures, he said the City General Services Office (CGSO) has the authority to enforce it.

The City Hall of Davao and the Sangguniang Panlungsod are located in the maximum security zone. (RGL)
