THE pedestrian overpass in Gaisano Mall is now safe to use after the Department of Public Works and Highways addressed the issue on Wendesday, May 2.

On a public post of a netizen on Wednesday morning, May 2, a photo of a cracked portion on the stairs in the overpass made noise online as Dabawenyos became worried it might fall any moment.

The issue was monitored by SunStar Davao and was heard by the appropriate government agency.

Based on the post of John Frances Fuentes of DPWH-Davao, their Public Information Officer Gigi Sorrera said, "The overpass fronting Gaisano Mall is now open to the public, dismissing public scare that the structure is not safe.”

District Engineer Wilfredo Ganias Aguilar also announced that the structural integrity of the overpass is intact.

Workers of the DPWH on Wendesday, May 2, removed the cracked portion of the overpass, and has placed signs for the passersby not to step near the cracked portion.

Officials from the city including Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag, Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office head Dionisio Abude and Davao City Engineer Joseph Felizarta coordinated with each other for the temporary closure of the area.
