P500,000 reward up for info on village chief’s killer

MATI City Mayor Michelle Rabat will be giving a P500,000 reward money to anyone who could provide information or name of the person behind the shooting of Matiao Barangay Captain Ronnie Valera.

Valera was shot dead on Wednesday evening, April 13, inside his residence around 8:30 p.m. while resting on a hammock.

The mayor said in a press release that she decided to provide regard to entice the witness to cooperate and help in the investigation.

"Gusto nako na makabalo mo na nagapadayon gihapon ta sa pag kab-ot ug hustisya para kay Kap Valera ug sa iyahang pamilya ug para pud masigurado ang seguridad sa mga Matinians (We want the public to know that we are continuing to search for justice for Kap Valera and his family, and to ensure the safety of the Matinians)," she said in her Facebook post.

She added, "This is a first, and we don’t want it to happen again."

According to initial reports, Valera sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead at the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center.

Police investigators recovered three empty bullets of calibre .45. Also recovered was the gun owned by Valera placed near his hammock.

Police authorities are still clueless on the person responsible for the death of the barangay official.
