THE Task Force Davao (TFD) is recommending the total or conditional gun ban in preparation for the possible lifting of martial law in Davao City.

TFD commander Colonel Consolito Yecla said Wednesday, November 13, that to bridge the gap and address the security requirement in Davao City should martial law be lifted, they came up with several recommendations, including the banning of firearms from entering the city.

He presented their recommendation during a security conference. The recommendation aims to ensure that armed groups or lawless elements will not penetrate the city bringing their guns.

"Isa sa mga advantage of the martial implementation is we can effectively control yong bringing of firearms in the city. If that is lifted mahirap mag-prevent, anybody, can bring and just present PTC (permit to carry) what if that PTC is not original pwede mangyari or ang pag-acquire is not perfectly na sala (The advantage of martial law is we are able to control those who are bringing firearms when they enter the city. If martial law is lifted, it will be hard to prevent because anyone can bring their guns as long as they have a PTC. But what if the PTC is fake?)," Yecla said.

He added it would be better to have a total or conditional gun ban.

"If we try to trace the reason why the city mayor recommended the lifting of martial law in Davao City is to ensure that investors and tourists will be given security clearance in visiting Davao City," Yecla said.

The recommendation of the total or conditional gun ban is part of their efforts to prepare Davao City's security once the martial law is lifted.

"Since the city mayor submitted the request for the national government for the exemption of the city and the lifting of martial law in Davao City, Task Force Davao has prepared actions to address 'yong security gap or the security issues that will be the effect ng lifting of martial law," he added.

Yecla said their primary action is to develop the culture of security in Davao City.
