Cor Jesu College woodpushers rule

COR Jesu College (CJC) of Digos swept the men’s and women’s gold medals of the recently-concluded Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Sportsfest 2019 college chess competition held at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), Jacinto Street, Davao City.

CJC tallied 19 points to rule the men’s team division as Jasper Seth Erum scored perfect five points in the five-round Swiss System format chessfest. His teammates John Raymond Vistal (3.5), Jasper Jay Erum (4.0), Renard Mamaril (4.5), Charles John Fiel (1.0) and Louis Van Guerrero (1.0).

Host Addu made 13.5 points to bag the silver while St. Mary’s College of Tagum (SMCT) scored 11.5 points to take the bronze.

CJC first whipped Assumption College of Nabunturan (ACN), 4-0, before defeating Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), 3.5-.05. Digos-based woodpushers also crushed University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 3.5-0.5, after scoring a 4-0 shutout win against SMCT.

Trailing behind were Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), Holy Cross College of Calinan, UIC, ACN, Philippine Women’s College (PWC)-Davao, St. Peter’s College of Toril (SPCT), ACD, Gabriel Taburin College of Davao (GTCD)and SMC-Bansalan.

In the distaff side, CJC garnered 14.5 points to clinch the gold while 13 pointers SMCT and HCDC bagged the silver and bronze, respectively. SMCT bested HCDC via superior tiebreaks.

Frince Ezra Ocliasa led CJC with 4.5 points while Clair de Leon and Lady Jane Cainong added four points each. Jessa Mae Macaganda had two points.
