DAVAO chessers Honey Grace Buenafe and Yngayo sisters Irish and Lorraine kept their unbeaten slates, while five semifinals-bound boxers were already assured of bronzes on Day 2 of the National Prisaa Games 2019 as of 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 21.

Second-seeded Buenafe of Jose Maria College (JMC) tallied perfect three points to lead the college women's event after beating Bicol Region's Aira Olleta in their third round encounter at the Sofia Hall of the Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP).

The Dabawenya also outclassed Bensi Lefa Glier of Central Visayas and Grizzlyn Banares in her first two matches.

Buenafe edged fellow three-pointers Kathrine Garcia of Ilocos Region and Shaina Cuevas of Soccsksargen via superior tiebreaks.

Third ranked Irish, a senior high school student of the University of Mindanao, opened her National Prisaa Games debut on a high note, sweeping her two matches to share the youth girls division lead with Lorraine, who defeated Rizza Mae Dagoc of Caraga and teammate Sophia Deliva in the last two rounds, and four others.

Irish demolished Shane Marie Bao of Caraga before pulling off a second round win over Rossette Anastacio.

Meanwhile, Davao college men's first day leaders Daniel Rome Borinaga and John Ray Batucan lost their third round matches to Jhulo Goloran of Central Luzon and Lordwin Espiritu of Cagayan Valley, respectively, while Andre Miguel Jorgio split point with Rafael Dionisio of Calabarzon.

Goloran and Espiritu scored identical three points to lead the division while Jorgio had 2.5. Batucan and Borinaga each had two points.

Over at the Teodoro Palma Gil Elementary School, Davao pug Curt Manigsasa stopped Erwin Sancio of Western Visayas in the elite boxing 56.1-60 kg event to barge into the semifinals against Angelou Dalogdog of Central Visayas. Othe Davao entries Harold Sayson (49.1-52 kgs), Jomari Ruben (56.1-60 kgs), Mark Andy Austria (60.1-64 kgs), Merlito Padilla (69.1-75 kgs) drew a bye Monday to advance to the semis set as of Tuesday, May 21.
