DAVAO City Golf Club (DCGC) Amigos, which recently won the Friendship Division of the 72nd Philippine Airlines Interclub golf team championships in Cebu City, intends to keep the players for the 2020 edition of the annual golfest.

DCGC team captain Rodolfo Luna, during Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, said, “We will continue the team for next year kahit wala na ang golf course namin.”

The land where DCGC course used to be located in Matina was already bought by a real estate development company.

Luna said they are eyeing to make the Apo Golf and Country Club (AGCC) their home course for their practices.

Lawyer Alro Paglinawan, for his part, thanked AGCC headed by its president Rhonson Ng for accommodating the team while preparing for the PAL Interclub. “Pinagamit kami ng libre sa Apo Golf para makapagpraktis. We are very much thankful. For next year’s tournament, we plan to send two teams. I think the venue will be in Clark, Pampanga,” he said.

Luna and Paglinawan both played for DCGC along with Edipolo Caturan, Ian Dagatan, Alvin Tesado, Ryan James Guiang, Randy Ceniza, Russel Mon Salazar, Godfrey Costinares and Rommel Lee.

The 10-member team, including six first-timers, amassed a total of 306 points in the four-day event, dethroning two-time champion South Cotabato Golf and Country Club (288). The Iligan Golf and Country Club (259) placed third.

Paglinawan said that the common love for golf made the Amigos decide to still compete in the PAL Interclub despite not having their own golf course. Salazar also said their chairman emeritus called for a tryout to select the players who will represent the team.

Paglinawan added, “We plan to continue competing now that we have become the defending champion.”

DCGC currently has some 40 players.
