DAVAO City's decorated athlete Sydney Sy Tancontian will have her official weigh-in Saturday, November 10, in her World Sambo Championships 2018 debut in Bucharest, Romania.

Her father Paolo, secretary-general of Philippine Sambo Federation, Inc. (PSFI), bared this to SunStar Davao Friday.

“Bukas after timbang malalaman ang pairing nya pero last day pa laro nya,” Paolo said.

The tournament will run until Sunday.

Eighteen-year-old Sydney, a 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games judo bronze medalist, recently competed in the 2018 World Youth and Juniors Sambo Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia.

She started playing judo at a young age since her father is also a judo veteran but she also had stints in Brazilian jiu jitsu, wrestling then sambbo.

The Dabawenya ace, in a separate interview, said sambo is different from other martial arts she had been playing.

“Sambo is very unique and a dynamic sport. Lesser restrictions in terms of the rules and enables you to perform freely,” she said.

She is entered in the women's +80 kilograms division. “Compared to my weight sa SEA Games umangat po weight ko but I will have to lose weight po for next year,” she added. (MLSA)
