MARC Alexander Lim of Davao City, who bagged a men’s jiu jitsu silver medal in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019, targets a gold in the 2020 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China on November 28 to December 5.

The 22-year-old Dabawenyo, who also had stints in the Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games (Aimag) 2017 in Ashgabat in Turkmenistan and Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia, said, “Hopefully, maka gold ako sa Asian Beach Games at try ko ring mag qualify sa World Games.”

Speaking before members of a recent Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, the Ateneo de Davao University graduate said only the top six jiu jitsu artists per weight category in the world can participate in the World Games.

“Currently top 13 ako ngayon sa world. Hopefully, I could place well in all my competitions this year. I’ll train super hard not as an individual but as a member of the national jiu jitsu team,” he said.

He added that he was inspired from his recent participation in the 30th SEA Games, which he said was the “best experience” for him as a national athlete.

He added, “I hope to do exceptionally well this year.”

Lim started as a chess player in elementary and high school. He competed in Davao Association of Catholic Schools meets and the mental sport has been a great help in his martial art.
