Peralta salvages bronze

THE Davao City chess team salvaged one bronze medal at the close of the Batang Pinoy 2018 National Championships chess tournament in Baguio City.

Queen Peralta, a 14 year-old student of Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA), placed third with 3.5 points in the five-round Swiss System format rapid girls 15 under division.

She trailed Kyle Joy Mordido of Dasmariña, Cavite (4.5) and Glesit Marie Tatoy of San Fernando, Laguna (3.5), who captured the gold and silver medal, respectively.

Samantha Umayan of Far Eastern Philippines (FEU), however, placed sixth with 3.0 points in the rapid girls 13 under division, trailing top five placers Jerlyn Mae of Dasmariñas, Cavite (4.5), Jamelin Ruth Lim of Bacolod City (3.5), Krisen Yochabel Marie Sanchez of Cebu City (3.0), Ferrose Joy Rafailes of Aklan Province (3.0) and Ayana Nicole Usmana of Santa Rosa, Laguna (3.0).

Nathalie Suter of Doña Pilar Learning Center Inc. Foundation School (DPLCIFC), 11, also placed sixth in the standard girls 13 event.

Suter, daughter of radioman Jhun, earned 2.5 points. Edelyn Vosotros of Cebu City (4.0), Trisha Ann Paez of Sta. Rosa, Laguna (4.0), Criswen Falamig of Laguna Province (4.0), Jasmine Atienza of Bacolod City (3.0), and Kristina Concepcion Belano of Cebu Province (2.5) were among the top five.

Kurt Placencia of San Pedro College (SPC), meanwhile, was seventh spot in boys standard 15.
