AARON Aton of Catalunan Grande Elementary School (CGES) and Queenie Peralta of Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA) scored perfect victories to lead their respective schools clinch titles in the 10th JVR Inter-School Invitational Chess Team Championships held recently at the Emcor Office, J.P. Laurel Avenue in Davao City.

Third seeded Aton was unbeaten after six rounds to rule the grade school boys division over Yreil Josh Hernani of Pathway Baptist Christian Academy and Charlz Acre Illescas of Antonio Pichon Jr. Elementary School who placed second and third, respectively.

Hernani edged fellow five-pointer Illescas via superior tiebreaks to grab the runner-up honors.

Aton upset top seed Chaelton Sumaylo of Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School in their fourth round encounter. The champion’s other victims were Nerkhan Hakeem Kempa of Brokenshire College of Toril, John Mark Labra of CGES, Ryle Jacob Villasfer of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), Hernani and Kiel Victor Salaknib Prenicolas of San Pedro College (SPC).

Top seed Peralta, meanwhile, topped the high school girls category by sweeping all her six matches against Nathalie Suter of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJKIS), Blanche Ellyz Bongato of Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad), Lienane Faith Salajudin and Jan Chelsea Mendoza of Davao Central College (DCC), Hannah Laurea Bustaleno of Mintal Comprehensive High School (MCHS) and Princess Clair Guiral of Davao Jones Academy (DJA).

Bongato and Jasmine Rei Amoncio of DWA scored identical five points to take the next two spots.

Hadassah Ria Literatus of RMES lorded over her rivals in grade school girls event while Marv Denzel Rubio of Philippine Women’s College (PWC) governed the high school boys class.

Team champions were PWC (high school boys), DWA (high school girls), CGES (grade school boys) and RMES (grade school girls).
