Anti-dengue drive up in Iloilo City

ILOILO City Government will be re-launching its intensified campaign against dengue at Jaro Plaza Gym on July 4.

With the theme “Bato Iloilo Kontra Dengue Kag Covid-19 sa Bag-ong Normal,” Mayor Jerry Treñas and City Council Committee on Health chairman Councilor Alan Zaldivar initiated the fight against dengue through constant cleanup.

The awareness advocacy, themed “Ugsaran Tinloan para Balatian Malikawan,” encourages residents to regularly conduct clearing operations to get rid of breeding places of mosquitoes.

“We invite our partners in media and religious sectors. We will have a countdown during the launching to indicate that the city is ready to fight against dengue. All barangays will conduct a Do Day,” Zaldivar said.

City Hall has strengthened the 5S Kontra Dengue, adding the new S, which stands for “Social Distancing and Use of Face Mask,” to the 4S Strategy: “Search and Destroy,” “Secure Self-Protection,” “Seek Early Consultation,” and “Support Spraying or Fogging” of Department of Health.

“If we can afford to have zero casualty fighting against dengue then it’s about time that we again strongly introduce our advocacy. This is more on strengthening community education,” Zaldivar said.

From January to June 13, the metropolis recorded 158 dengue cases and one casualty, as reported by City Health Office. (PR)
