KALIBO, Aklan -- The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), in cooperation with a private dog owner, gave free services and gifts to around 60 dogs coming from the different towns of the province.

Dr. Ronald Lorenzo, rabies control coordinator of the PVO, said they organized a gift-giving for dogs upon the invitation of Albert Manalo, who is a private dog owner.

Among the services given Tuesday, December 16, were free consultation, anti-rabies vaccination and deworming, as well as free dog food and tablet medications.

Manalo also provided food for the clients, as well as reindeer antler headbands and collars. Dog owners are welcomed to take part in the activity.

"This is also part of our anti-rabies program in the province last year. We monitored at least four rabies cases for humans and six on dogs," he said.

In 2018, the PVO registered only two rabies for humans and five for dogs.

Manalo said he organized the activity in remembrance of his Japanese spit breed Nikki, who died of a heart a heart attack and was buried in January 2019. (SunStar Philippines)
