TREES and plants do a lot for the environment, not just for beautification and providing extra shade.

With this, Iloilo City planted a total number of 5,008 seedlings from January to July this year.

These included elephant ears, fire trees, Palawan cherries, African

talisay, bamboos, and sampaguitas, among others. They were planted along drainage areas, circumferential road, floodway, and Esplanade.

Fruit trees, forest trees, and ornamentals were planted to help boost air quality and help cushion the impacts of climate change.

"We encourage the Ilonggos: Plant a tree, and you and your community will thrive from the benefits," Executive Assistant for Environment Armando Dayrit said.

Dayrit supervises the continued greening efforts all over the metropolis.

Several seedlings were released to individuals, barangays, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Beautification Program, Calahunan Sanitary Landfill, and nursery for massive tree-planting activities. (PR)
