BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan -- The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry chapters in the Western Visayas (PCCI-WV) welcomes the decision of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) in lifting the moratorium on chartered flights to Kalibo International Airport (KIA), the gateway to Boracay Island.

In an interview Thursday, July 18, Elena Tusco Brugger, president of the PCCI-Boracay, said that the PCCI-WV held its regular meeting last week in nearby Roxas City, Capiz.

The CAB said they lifted the order which did not initially allow additional charter flights to KIA.

“During the meeting, one of those in the agenda includes the planned issuance of PCCI-WV to issue a resolution to CAB asking for consideration. We in the PCCI will not anymore such resolution as it has already been lifted. Nevertheless, we welcome such development,” said Brugger.

In a press conference Wednesday at Casa Pilar Resort in Boracay, Natividad Bernardino chair of the Boracay Inter Agency Rehabilitation Management Group, said that they have yet to receive a copy of the lifting of such order from CAB.

“Despite the order, we will still stick to the carrying allowable capacity for Boracay tourism. We would study the possible impact to Boracay’s environment on such increase chartered flights in Boracay,” Bernardino added.
