THE Kalibo International Airport (KIA) will temporarily stop serving international flights beginning March 8, 2020, said the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap).

Caap-Kalibo Chief Engr. Eusebio Monserate Jr. said the airline companies with flights to and from KIA have cancelled the trips indefinitely due to the threat of coronavirus disease.

"The Caap Central Office has no advisories against any travel ban for now. The cancellation of flights were the decision of the airline companies themselves," Monserate said.

He said the last international flights that will bring passengers to KIA will land at the airport on March 7, with flights scheduled from Incheon and Pusan in South Korea.

"There are also chartered flights scheduled on March 23 and 25. From then, we will await for advisories if when would the international flights would resume," he said.

But Monserate said the KIA will continue to operate with its three domestic flights coming to and from Manila, Cebu and Clark.

Last March 1, a flight was expected to arrive at KIA from Taiwan, but it was cancelled. (SunStar Philippines)
