CLASSES and sea trips in northern Panay were cancelled Tuesday, December 3, while several families were evacuated to safer areas due to Typhoon Tisoy (Kammuri).

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-Western Visayas reported that as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the province with the most number of families affected is Capiz, with 648 families.

It was followed by Roxas City with 181, Aklan with 35 and Antique with 14.

Classes were suspended in 23 areas in Negros Occidental, 11 in Capiz, 17 in Aklan, 24 in Iloilo province, Iloilo City and Bacolod City.

Iloilo City, however, only experienced light winds while Tisoy crossed the country.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) downgraded the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal in Iloilo, Capiz and the rest Antique and Aklan provinces from 2 to 1.

Northern Antique and Aklan provinces, however, remained under signal number 2.

Pagasa said that Tisoy is expected to exit the Philippine areas of responsibility last Wednesday, December 4. (SunStar Philippines)
