PREPARATIONS are underway for Iloilo City delegation's participation in the week-long Batang Pinoy National Finals in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan slated on August 25-31.

Some 189 young Ilonggo athletes and 63 coaches are getting ready to compete in various events against defending champions from Baguio City and close competitors from Davao City.

Executive Assistant for Sports Rudiver Jungco Sr. met with coaches July 8 to know the needs and concerns of athletes.

The meeting was conducted in time for Visayas delegation registration in Cebu City July 10-12.

For their medical certificates, it was suggested to have appointments with health centers and doctors prior to submission of requirements.

The coaches also suggested to write to Mayor Jerry Treñas requesting for the processing of medical certificates through City Health Office (CHO).

A masterlist of qualified athletes will be submitted with their requests for medical certificates. Jungco will coordinate with CHO to fast track such request.

Batang Pinoy or Youth Games serves as national sports competition program for children, and is envisioned to address the need for a grassroots sports program centered on values formation inherent in the practice of sports and play. (PR)
