MISS Universe 2018 Catriona Gray went to the Senate Tuesday, February 26, to pay a courtesy call on senators.

The beauty queen was received by Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and Senators Nancy Binay and Gregorio Honasan, who commended Gray for bringing "great honor, glory and recognition" to the country.

Sotto and Binay earlier filed resolutions commending Gray for her victory.

Gray won the Miss Universe 2018 pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand last December. She is the fourth Filipina to win the crown. The three others were Gloria Diaz (1969), Margarita Moran (1973), and Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach (2015).

In a speech Tuesday, February 26, Gray said it gives her "great joy to see the joy that I brought to our nation."

"I will continue this year to hold the Filipino at very high standard to the international audience and also to continue to pursue my advocacies," she added.

Gray asked for the Senate's continued support "in empowering young Filipinos just like me to be able to give back to their community in their own facets, in their own ways."

Gray arrived in the country last February 15 and a grand homecoming for her was held last February 21. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
