FOUR persons, including a civilian, were killed while four others were wounded during an encounter between government troops and Abu Turaifie Group in Maguindanao on Friday, September 7.

A report from the Philippine Army 6th Infantry Division said a firefight between the soldiers and the local terrorists ensued around 3 p.m. in Datu Montawal.

The troops were conducting patrolling in the area after receiving reports from the residents that three improvised explosive devices will be transported from Kabasalan, Barangay Darampua, Sultan sa Barongis to Kabacan, North Cotabato.

As the troops approached, the terrorists allegedly fired upon them. The terrorists fled towards the south.

Other government forces immediately conducted pursuit operations in Barangay Dunguan, Datu Montawal, where another clash occurred.

As the terrorists fled, they allegedly fired at some civilians. Killed was Babay Dansalan while wounded were Maula Rerente Mangimblas and Dangalao Dangwa Akad.

The residents said three members of the Daesh-inspired group were also killed while two others were wounded.

The fleeing terrorists were picked up by their alleged groupmates on board two motorized bancas.

The operation resulted in the recovery of M16 rifles, one M1 Garand rifle, one caliber .45 pistol, assorted magazines and ammunition and the apprehension of suspected Abu Turaifie Group members identified as Mohamid Kambilan and Abdulah Minola.

The arrested suspects were brought to Datu Montawal Municipal Police Station.

Joint Task Force Central commander Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana said manhunt operations were ongoing.

“Joint Task Force Central has sustained its focused military operations targeting the suspects of Isulan IED bombings, to give justice on the civilian victims. Manhunt operation is also strengthened in coordination with the PNP (Philippine National Police)," he said. (SunStar Philippines)
